The City of Bankstown is a local government area in the Canterbury-Bankstown region of Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, centred on the suburb of Bankstown. Bankstown Town Hall, in the City Centre, holds a number of entertainment and cultural events throughout the year. Some of the Major events in the City include Australia Day, Carols by Candlelight and Bankstown Bites Food Festival. Australia Day celebrations are held on the Georges River foreshore and attract large crowds. Carols are normally held in the City Centre, at Paul Keating Park. During April an Autumn Fair is held in Yagoona. The major sport in Bankstown City is rugby league. There is one local team in the National Rugby League called the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs. Bankstown City was also home to the Sydney 2000 Olympic Dunc Gray Velodrome. The Velodrome now holds The Roosters International Cycling Events. In 2007, events were held at the location as part of the Australian Youth Olympics 2007.
